According to international practice, the seminar was held one year before the Olympic Games, with a duration of three days. It aimed at briefing NOCs on the progress of the preparatory work for the Olympics, hearing NOCs' views and suggestions and fostering communication and exchange among members of the Olympic Family. At the same time, it gave the host city a good opportunity to show its new face and spread a good image on the international stage to ensure the success of the Olympics. During the August 7-9 meeting, BOCOG updated the attendants on the preparations for the 2008 Olympic Games, and heads of different BOCOG departments made presentations on their work.

During the meeting, BOCOG also invited attendants to pay on-site visits to the Olympic Village, competition and non-competition venues, take part in tree-planting activities, view test-events and watch cultural activities to celebrate the one-year countdown to the Olympics.

8th August 2007, President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Mr. Jacques Rogge came to Beijing's Olympic Green Hockey Field where his hockey skills were acclaimed by some 1,000 spectators.

His solo demonstration was arranged before the inaugural use of the Olympic venue. The competition between China and Argentina took place afterwards as part of the Good Luck Beijing 2007 International Hockey Tournament, and Rogge and his party watched the match attentively.
